January 2017

In January, Velocity Recruitment celebrated 10 years of trading. By moving into our tenth year of business we have reflected on the success and growth of the company. We feel that we have learned more and more about the industry and through this have been able to develop our client base and expand into various sectors of recruitment.

Although challenging at times, we strive to continue our success by working hard and seeking new opportunities. Here’s to the next ten years!

November 2016

In November we were pleased to announce the launch of ‘Velocity Transport Solutions.’ After much planning, deliberation and discussion, we took the step of hiring our own vehicles. Having had instances where one of our major clients have not had enough vehicles to complete all of their loads, we are now able to aid them by supplying vehicles as well as drivers. As a result our clients have been better equipped to complete their orders and we have also created extra work for our drivers, adding to the growth of Velocity Recruitment.

September 2016

Here at Velocity Recruitment, we always strive to ensure that we are compliant with current legislation and provide excellent levels of service.
In September, we gained FTA (Freight Transport Association) Accreditation. This accreditation recognises, encourages and promotes good practice and shows that we have achieved the highest levels of competence, verifying to our clients and workers that we are doing things right!

April 2016

Velocity ‘specialists in recruitment’ have aced their exams!!!
We have recently passed our bi-annual  audit to remain members of the REC (Recruitment and Employment Confederation) until April 2018.  Our resident compliance wizard, Kay Hawman, was ably assisted by Velocity manager Mike Bones in attaining a fantastic 98% mark. Well done to both of them, how ever, it still leaves slight room for improvement so the challenge for 2018 is to reach a perfect 100%

Low Paid Commission meeting.

Mike Bones and David McCourt of Velocity ‘specialists in recruitment’ were recently privileged to be invited to meet with the committee of the Low Paid Commission who are a government advisory board which make recommendations to the government on the National Minimum Wage and monitors it's effects on industry.

This has been an excellent opportunity to represent the recruitment industry within the North East of England and put our thoughts forward on the subject of low pay especially within the logistics sector compared to the more southern areas. We did feel that the Low Paid Commission did take our points on-board and sympathtic to our veiws.

Mobile phone offences by lorry and bus drivers
DVLA - in partnership with traffic commissioners, will introduce a new process starting in early September 2014 to proportionately tackle mobile phone use by drivers of large vehicles. It is important that both drivers and employers understand the change and the consequences of committing this offence.
Drivers caught using a phone or similar hand-held device while driving may be issued a fixed penalty by the police. The penalty is £100 and 3 penalty points endorsed on the driver’s record held at DVLA.

From November 2014, any driver who commits a second or further offence of this nature will be referred automatically to a traffic commissioner for a conduct review. An outcome of this review could be a suspension of the vocational entitlement, a feature that would prevent vocational drivers from being able to carry out their duties and impact on their employers.
